Physiatrists are medical doctors that are experts at diagnosing and
treating medical conditions that cause pain and limit function. Also
called physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians,
physiatrists provide a full spectrum of care - from diagnosis to treatment
and rehabilitation - to restore maximum health and quality of life.
They restore maximum function lost through injury, illness or disabling
conditions. They treat the entire person and not just the symptoms.

By seeing Dr. Zaman, you are not only seeing a physician trained in Physiatry, but also seeing an "interventional" physiatrist, fellowship trained in Spine Care at arguably the premier Spine Center in the nation. What does all this really mean? It means that Dr. Zaman has pursued optional higher education to obtain a level of qualification and expertise that places him above the vast majority of general physiatrists and makes him a true "spine specialist". He is, therefore, able to provide you with supreme care.
Dr. Zaman is a diagnostician as well. He understands that the basis behind successful medical care is making a proper diagnosis in the first place. Thus, he reads each and every MRI scan on his own to assist in formulating an accurate diagnosis, regardless of the impression of the interpreting radiologist. It is imperative that if MRI's have been done, that you bring them with you to your consultation with Dr. Zaman. Other diagnostic tests or procedures may be discussed during your visit as well.
Dr. Zaman believes strongly in a multidisciplinary approach to spine care. This means that occasionally, when felt appropriate, referrals to physical therapists, psychologists, acupuncturists, social workers, neurologists, athletic trainers, other physiatrists, anesthesiologists, and even chiropractors is considered. If Dr. Zaman feels that he has nothing to offer you, he will apprise you of this as well, and likely recommend a place for you to go for your medical care.
The precision targeted x-ray guided procedures that Dr. Zaman offers in his clinic frequently help patients to not only identify the source of their pain if the correct diagnosis hasn't been made, but also helps patients to avoid aggressive surgical procedures in many circumstances.
If a patient fails to progress with Dr. Zaman's interventional physiatric approach, appropriate surgical referral for consultation, or referral to a chronic pain specialist who may assist with long term medication modification is considered.
The following is a partial list of some of the minimally invasive procedures that Dr. Zaman offers to his patients when appropriate:
- Epidural Injections
- Selective Nerve Root Blocks (SNRB's)
- Facet Joint Injections or "Facet Blocks"
